The Berkeley Group empowers undergraduate students to improve nonprofit impact while
growing professionally and personally through hands-on experience on high-value projects.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Berkeley Group is a community of changemakers working to provide tangible and sustainable
business advice to local social sector organizations. We believe that nonprofit success is the foundation
for creating fundamental social change, thereby improving the realities for all members of society.

OUR STORY

TBG was founded in 2003 by four UC Berkeley juniors in Professor Alan Ross’s course “The Social, Political,
and Ethical Environment of Business,” at the Haas School of Business. Our founding members are Monisha
Charania, Yihan Ma, Jennifer Loo, and Michael Lew. They saw an opportunity to improve our local community
by applying the undergraduate professional consulting model to social sector organizations. The Berkeley Group
is the first pro bono professional consulting organization and the second consulting organization established
on the UC Berkeley campus. In the process, they also established a culture of professional and personal growth
for members to form genuine and lifelong friendships. Our alumni network has members across the United
States and all over the world.

To date, The Berkeley Group has helped over 200 social sector organizations, creating impact nationally and globally.
